National Honors Society

Our mission: To honor students who have excelled in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: 
Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is based on the following: 
  • Must be a Junior or Senior
  • Minimum Unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • No past or present disciplinary Issues     
 
Members of the Junior and Senior class who meet the above requirements are invited to apply by way of application and submission to Mr. Smith.  All eligible applicants are required to share examples of how they display the Four Pillars of NHS within their application.  
 
SCHOLARSHIP: 
  • All eligible applicants must demonstrate academic achievement by achieving a 3.4 GPA or higher. 
LEADERSHIP:
  • Being resourceful when dealing with new problems and providing meaningful suggestions for change.
  • Demonstrates initiative in promoting school activities.
  • Exercises influence on peers in upholding school policies, etc. 
  • Contributes ideas that improve the civic life of the school.
  • Is able to delegate responsibilities.
  • Exemplifies positive attitudes.
  • Inspires positive behavior in others.
  • Demonstrates academic initiative.
  • Demonstrates reliability and dependability.
  • Displays leadership in school or community activities.
  • Upholds scholarship and maintains a loyal school attitude.    
SERVICE: 
  • Volunteers and provides dependable and well organized assistance.
  • Willing to sacrifice to offer assistance.
  • Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult responsibilities.
  • Enthusiastically renders requested service to the school community.
  • Willing to represent the school in inter-class and inter-scholastic competitions.
  • Participates in community based services outside of school: Ex. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, youth groups affiliated with religious institutions, etc.
  • Willing to mentor and serve fellow classmates. 
  • Willing to with school events by assisting visitors, teachers, and students.   
CHARACTER:
  • Willingness to receive constructive criticism and accept recommendations graciously.
  • Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior (friendliness, positive, and supportive).
  • Upholds principles of morality and ethics.
  • Cooperates by complying with school policies/student conduct codes. 
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability.
  • Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others.
  • No detention or chronic behavior issues (observes instructions and rules).
  • Positive contributor to school environment.
 
The National Honors Society Club meets on 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the Month from 3:10 to 4:00 pm in room 312.
