Principal's Message

Eleanor McCree, Garcia High School Principal
Ms. McCree has been a member of the García community for the past seven years, first serving as a civil engineering and architecture teacher, followed by taking on the role of an instructional coach and most recently as the interim principal. Ms. McCree even had the honor of being named Teacher of the Year for García in 2016!

Eleanor has an impressive pedigree which includes a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), a Master of Science in Biochemical Sciences from Roosevelt University and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Xavier University. She most recently completed her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University.

“I love being a school leader because I am able to impact the lives of over 600 students daily while collaborating with staff and families in the process. I am grateful to be able to see my students grow and mature into tomorrow's leaders.” She said of becoming the García Principal, “The García community has always been home to me and I look forward to collaborating with the other leaders in the Acero network to continue creating the next generation of lifelong learners (discerner and doers).”

Principal's Message
Welcome to MAJ Hector P. Garcia MD High School, home of the Patriots! We are a CPS 1 school that proudly serves the Archer Heights neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest side. Our students engage in rigorous coursework ranging from AP English Literature to Dual-Enrollment College Algebra to Environmental Science and can choose electives in Fine Arts, World Languages, Engineering, Drama and Composition as well as a wide range of PE electives. Outside of academics, our students compete in city-wide athletic competitions and events such as Chess team. We are advocates for students and their families through Escuela Para Padres and our vibrant DREAMers Club. Thank you for visiting our site!
